The Zionsville baseball team couldn’t have asked for a much better start than the one they got down in Tennessee this past weekend.

The Eagles went a perfect 4-0, facing some top teams from nearby states.

After a 4-3 win in the opener, the Eagles cruised to a 10-1 win late Friday night against Siegel (Tenn.).

The Eagles took control with a 6-run second inning, all coming with two outs.

Nicholas Wahl and Wrigley Bumgardner hit RBI-singles to make it 2-0, and after the Eagles loaded the bases, Riley Agbonhese walked to drive in a run.

Nolan Osterling then busted the game wide open with a triple to make it 6-0.

Zionsville added a run in the fourth on an Agbonhese double, then two more in the sixth on a Bumgardner single. Wahl drove in another run in the seventh.

That was more than enough runs support for Simon Wilkinson, who was dominant in four innings. He allowed just two hits and struck out eight. Ryder Weisenbach finished it off, striking out six in three innings.

Bumgardner and Agbonhese each had two hits.

While the bats were key on Friday night, it was the pitching and defense that took over Saturday morning.

Facing Wauconda from Illinois, the Eagles won 1-0.

The lone run came in the sixth, when Osterling walked and got to third when Lincoln Belser reached on an error while bunting.

Jackson Tielker then drove in the game-winning run with a ground out.

Jonah Everson started and allowed just two hits in four innings, striking out eight. Jackson Gilley struck out three in the final innings.

Paul Muszik had two hits.

In the final game of the trip, the Eagles bested Station Camp (Tenn.) 7-4.

Again the Eagles grabbed control early.

Belser’s RBI-double gave them a 1-0 lead in the first, before the Eagles added four in the fourth on a wild pitch, 2-run single from Agbonhese and a ground out from Osterling.

Station Camp made it 5-4 in the fifth, but in the sixth Josh Girvan stole home on a double steal, and the Eagles tacked on another in the seventh on a Tielker ground out.

Brady Shaw, Osterling and Bumgardner combined to get the job done on the mound.

Brayden Ring had three hits in the win.
