Two teens arrested after crime spree

A two-county string of thefts and robberies ended with a standoff at the Marathon Village Pantry, 200 S. Ford Road, Monday afternoon, Oct. 19.

After roughly 20 minutes inside the store and with law enforcement officers from Zionsville, Carmel, Boone County, Hamilton County, Whitestown and Indiana State Excise surrounding the site, two suspects walked out the front door and surrendered on the ground before being cuffed and brought into custody.

One of the suspects is Robert M. Sims, 19, of Indianapolis. He was wanted on a warrant in Marion County for burglary. Sims was transported to the Hamilton County Jail and charged with robbery and theft. He was being held Tuesday morning, Oct. 20, on a $15,000 bond.

The other suspect is a 17-year-old juvenile male, also from Indianapolis. He surrendered approximately 5 minutes before Sims did.

We'll give information on the series of criminal events that took place before the suspects were arrested at Village Pantry and talk to the clerk, assistant manager and Zionsville police Chief Rick Downden.

For the whole story, see the Wednesday, Oct. 21 edition of the Zionsville Times Sentinel.
