  • Community calendar for Feb. 18 Meet state legislators

    Local statehouse officials will be featured at a Legislative Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Lora Hussey Room of the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 250 N. Fifth St.

    Attendees may meet local state legislators and enjoy a continental breakfast during this free drop-in program. The following officials have been invited to attend: State Representatives Cindy Noe, District 87; Jeff Thompson, District 28; and Jacqueline Clements, District 38. State Senators Jim Buck, District 21, and Phil Boots, District 23. Participants must enter the library through the Fifth St. entrance for the event.

  • Community calendar for Feb. 4 40s-style Valentine Dinner Dance slated

    A 17 piece Big Band Orchestra will be featured at a 40s-style Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Indianapolis Executive Airport, Montgomery Aviation Hanger, 29 East State Road 32. The event is a fundraiser for the Commemorative Air Force. Dinner will be followed by dancing to a live band in a hanger containing vintage aircraft and vehicles.   • Community calendar for Jan. 28 A 1950s Family Sock Hop will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Boys and Girls Club West, 5964 S. 700 East, Whitestown. The event is sponsored by the Parents’ Council of the Village Dance Studio. The sock hop, which is open to the public, will include a bounce house, old fashioned root beer floats, games, dancing, a raffle and more.

    All proceeds benefit the Village Dance Ensemble dance education trip and the Parents Council. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 per person, $30 for a family or group of six. At the door, tickets are $15 and $35.

  • Community calendar for Jan. 21 Sitter classes offered

    The Boys and Girls Club of Zionsville will offer a Safe Sitter Class from 9 am to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 24 and Feb. 28. Children must be between 11 and 13 years old to attend. Sign up at the club on 1575 Mulberry St. Sign-up deadline is the Tuesday prior to each class. Cost is $55 per person and the limit is 10 persons per class. If there are fewer than six participants, the class will be canceled and individuals notified. Call 873-6670 with questions.

  • Community calendar for Jan. 14 Thursday, Jan. 15, is the deadline for seniors enrolled in Boone County 4-H to apply for Indiana 4-H Foundation Scholarships; 4-H Club scholarships and 4-H Accomplishment scholarships.

    Applications are due by 4 p.m. at the Boone County Extension Office in the Boone County Farm Bureau Inc. Community Building, 1300 E. County Road 100 South, Lebanon.
