Chamber seeks award nominees

The Zionsville Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for its Town Crier, Dahlia and Community Services awards. The Town Crier Award recognizes persons who have made outstanding contributions to Zionsville; the Dahlia Award recognizes a Zionsville employer or employee for excellent service, and the Community Service Award recognizes the efforts of institutions or organizations toward the betterment and growth of the Zionsville community. Applications may be picked up at the chamber office, 135 S. Elm St., and are due by Friday, Dec. 19. Call the chamber at 873-3836 for more information.



Pizza night at American Legion

American Legion Post No. 79 Ladies Auxiliary is having its monthly pizza night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the Legion Hall, 9950 E. County Road 600 South. Masonic Lodge to install officers

The public is invited to the installation of 2009 officers at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Charles F. Frank Masonic Lodge No. 760, 106 N. Ninth St. Elected 2009 officers are Andy Clayton, worshipful master; Bill Meyers, senior warden; Fossil Bates PM, junior warden; Jerrit Clayton, secretary; Fermin Akers, treasurer. Immediate Past Master Luke Stark was elected to a three-year term as trustee.

Appointed officers for 2009 are Jason Eder, senior deacon; Tim McFadden, junior deacon; James Tyler, chaplain; Kenny Caldwell, senior steward; John Schwein, junior steward; Greg Rogers, tyler. In addition, Prather Commandery Knights Templar No. 62 will install Jerry Miller, past master of the Lodge, as eminent commander for 2009.

A reception will follow the installation.



Zion Nature Center

• Holidays are for the Birds — 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20. All ages. Take a break from the holiday rush and stop by the nature center to make a holiday treat for the birds. Cost is $1.

• Seventh Annual Holiday Open House — Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21. All ages. Activities include a winter solstice hike at 2 p.m., animal talks, refreshments and crafts.

• Animals of the North Pole — 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27. All ages. Arctic Aaron of Silly Safaris will introduce some “cool” live animals during a holiday program, including reindeer. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Call 873-8950 or e-mail znaturecenter@aol.com.

• Winter Break Hike — 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28. All ages. Winter is a wonderful time to enjoy and observe nature. Come for a winter hike through Zion Nature Sanctuary and burn off some of those holiday calories. Free.

• New Exhibit: Mammals on the Move — through February 2009. Get a close-up view of the collection of taxidermy mammals, mammal puppets and toys in this interactive, fun and educational exhibit for even the little ones. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Zionsville.

Participants will earn one free raffle entry for the Teen Winter Reading Program. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

hospitalized children

Akard True Value is seeking unwrapped gifts for children who will be at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent during Christmas. Desired items include children’s magazines, toddler toys with lights and sounds, superhero toys, character pillowcases, princess items, boxed puzzles, child-friendly DVDs, board games, video games, activity books, craft projects, card games and talking books.
