Zionsville —
The Zionsville wrestling team knew it had to have a big lead heading into the final match of the day Thursday night, Dec. 13, against Fishers, with the Tigers’ Mitch Sliga — ranked No. 1 in the nation at 195 pounds — waiting.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, a couple close matches didn’t go their way, and Sliga won by pinfall to give Fishers the 32-28 win.
“We had a couple of kids that we really thought had an opportunity to win matches, and we didn’t,” Zionsville head coach Bob Brennan said. “We had a couple of close matches that didn’t go our way and it is unfortunate. We will go back and look at it and see what is going on. We have to get better. We have a break coming up here; I know some of the kids are a little worn down. After Christmas, we have our holiday tournament which will be tough because it is a strong field, then we have Corydon Invite, then it is Lebanon’s senior night and our senior night so it goes really fast. We will see Fishers again at the Hoosier Crossroads Conference Meet and the Sectional, but it won’t be easy.”
