Royals top Eagles as Irvin scores 33

Zionsville — Hamilton Southeastern guard Zak Irvin showed why he is one of the best players in the state in the class of 2013, if not the country.

The University of Michigan commit, currently rated as the No. 34 player nationally, torched Zionsville for 33 points on 12 of 18 shooting from the floor as the Eagles fell 66-59 Dec. 14, in a critical Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

“He’s Mr. Basketball in my mind because I have seen all the players in the state,” Zionsville coach Shaun Busick said of Irvin. “I felt like we had some crucial mistake in the first half that cost us this basketball game. I am pleased with our effort and intensity tonight. This was a game where we had the lead in the fourth quarter, but we need to learn how to hold on and win against an elite team like this.”
