Zionsville swimmers sweep McCutcheon

Lafayette — There was no looking ahead to the Thanksgiving break for the Zionsville swimming and diving teams Tuesday, Nov. 20, when they traveled to face McCutcheon.

The Eagles easily swept the meet, taking the boys’ meet 138-45 and the girls’ meet 120-66.

Zionsville head coach Scott Kubly said he wasn’t worried about the kids looking ahead to a day off.

“I think if the meet was Wednesday it might be a little different,” Kubly said. “But today was a normal school day. We got on the bus and came over.”

It was the first meet of the year for the Zionsville boys, and they came out in mid-season form.

The Eagles won all but one event and had many times faster than in the first meet last year.

“They did very well, I was really happy with them,” Kubly said. “We had a lot of great swims tonight. One of the things we had been talking about to see how fast they were at the beginning of this season, compared to last year. We had a lot of swims that were faster, so I am happy.”

Beau Boggs led the Eagles with four victories on the day.

Individually he won the 200-yard IM (2:04.72) and 500-yard freestyle (5:06.27).

He teamed with Charlie Hicks, Rory Coscia and Kyle DeCoursey to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:35.59 and with DeCoursey, Ryan Bohl and Connor Gelwicks to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:28.34.

Gelwicks, Bohl and Coscia teamed with Ben Gavette to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:45.74 to give the Eagles a clean sweep of the relays.
