Zionsville continues unbeaten run by beating Noblesville

Noblesville — For the second straight week it was the Zionsville defense that carried the day while the offense was a little stagnant at times. Zionsville (3-0) burst out of a scoreless halftime tie to beat Noblesville 28-0 to remain spotless all-time against the Millers.

“I didn’t say anything to the offense. I have my offensive coordinators to do that for me at halftime,” Zionsville coach Larry McWhorter said. “It’s not my job to talk to the offense. I was really pleased after struggling like that, then coming out with two good drives. Any coach would be pleased with that.”

As much as Zionsville’s defense dominated the first half, its offense seemed to get in its own way of scoring. With 3:41 left in the first quarter Zionsville had driven 62 yards to the Noblesville one yard line, but quarterback Parker Dunshee fumbled the sneak attempt before breaking the plane and Noblesville was able to recover.

Special teams also got in the way of the Eagles scoring. Zonsville missed a 48-yard field goal attempt and two shanked punts gave Noblesville excellent field position in the second quarter.

Fortunately, the defense was more than able enough. Zionsville gave up just 101 yards on 44 offensive plays run by the Millers. T.C. McKiernan accounted for most of that with 66 yards passing and nine yards rushing, but much of his rushing efforts only made up for Zionsville sacks.

While Zionsville was tied 0-0 at the half it only took four plays for them to break the deadlock after halftime. Dunshee capped a 67 yard drive with a 31 yard scramble for a touchdown through the Noblesville secondary. Fullback Steven Wisnewski had a huge downfield block that sprung Dunshee for his final few yards on the play.
