The Eagles have been in a rough stretch with five losses in their last seven games, but a Thursday, Feb. 7, victory over Boone County rival Lebanon was able to brighten their spirits.
Zionsville (9-8) led wire-to-wire in a 56-51 victory over Class 3A No. 8 ranked Lebanon (13-4).
Andrew Dakich led the Eagles with 22 points, and Zionsville had contributions from a number of role players for their eighth-straight victory in the series against their county rivals.
“They’re a great basketball team, and I was very pleased with our effort,”Zionsville coach Shaun Busick said. “We really earned the victory. Our key tonight was making it tough for Caleb Brannon. We rotated three or four guys on him and tried to keep someone fresh on him.”
Brannon, who recently joined the 1,000 point club at Lebanon, was held to only three first half points, and the Eagles hassled him into a 4-of-15 night from the field for 12 points total.
Still, Brannon had a chance to flip things in Lebanon’s favor after a rough night.
After leading by as much as 15 in the third period, the Tigers were able to cut the lead to two at 50-48 on a basket by Cord Barricklow with 2:07 left in the game.
