Sports briefs 10-10

Boys XC

The Zionsville boys cross country team won the Guerin Catholic Invite Tuesday, Oct. 2.

The Eagles scored 24 team points, well ahead of second place Guerin with 47.

Brian Rice won the race for Zionsville, completing the 5,000-meters in 16:31.

Andrew Brake and Max Leeds placed third (17:03) and fourth (17:06) respectively.

Ty Abbitt placed seventh in a time of 17:13, and Bond Bixler rounded out the scoring five in ninth with a time of 17:23.

Also running for Zionsville were Dan Detorrice (13th, 17:43), Mitch Weber (14th, 17:45), James Alvar (19th, 18:10), Robert Shrote (21st, 18:17), James Pierce (24th, 18:24) and Lucas Harder (33rd, 19:39).

The Eagles competed in the sectional Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Ben Davis.

The event took place after deadline and will appear in next week’s Times Sentinel.

 

Battle for the Nest

Zionsville Middle School and Zionsville West Middle School will be having two “Battle of the Nest” games this week.

Wednesday, Oct. 9, the two football teams will face off for the trophy.

Kick-off is at 5 p.m. at the high school football field. All youth football players and cheerleaders will get free admittance to the eighth-grade game if they wear their uniforms.

Youth players are invited to form the pre-game tunnels and youth cheerleaders will join the middle school squads in the third quarter.

The volleyball squads will face off for the Nest trophy at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11,  at ZMS.

All Junior Eagles, Little Spikers and ZCHS summer camp volleyball players who wear their volleyball jersey or camp T-shirt get in free.
