Einterz takes 195 title to lead Eagles to 4th place

Zionsville — The Zionsville Eagles had some tough competition Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Zionsville Invitational.

With two ranked teams and 16 ranked wrestlers in 11 different weight classes, it provided a good early season test for the Eagles.

Zionsville placed fourth in the competition. Center Grove won the championship.

“I thought we wrestled OK, but I thought we slipped back to where we didn’t finish the last round very well, similar to what happened at Lafayette Jeff,” Zionsville head coach Bob Brennan said. “We didn’t have that killer instinct. Part of it is better competition, but part was not wrestling our best.”

The Eagles did have five finalists on the day.

But they only finished with one champion — Joe Einterz at 195 pounds.

Einterz made quick work of his opponent — Jake Marsh of Brownsburg — pinning him the first period.

“Our assistant coaches did a fantastic job of getting us coached up and we had some kids finish ahead of their seed,” Brennan said. “Sam Kern made it to the finals when he wasn’t seeded too and Joe Einterz was third seeded and made it to the finals and won. It was nice to have a champion, we didn’t have one last season. We would have liked a few more, but we didn’t wrestle to our full potential.”
