Sports briefs for June 19

Rugby team falls short in state playoffs

The Zionsville Community High School Rugby Club lost to Culver 13-7 in the state playoffs on May 28, in Columbus.

This was the team’s third straight appearance at state.

The team played well in the extreme heat with a try being scored by junior Joe Einterz for five points and a conversion kick from senior Chris Lamb for two points. 

Zionsville finished their season 10-2 scoring 427 points against only 88 returned by other teams. 

Zach Allgood, Phil Centofante and Lamb were named to the all-state team. Graduating seniors are Allgood, Lamb, Centofante, Ben Colbert, Michael Connor, Tyler Cox, Justin Buckley, Alex Duncan, Chris Diest and Mike Ellis.

 

Hockey club holding tryouts

The Zionsville Hockey Club varsity team, will be holding tryouts for the 2012-13 season from 9 a.m to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, and from 7:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Carmel Ice Skadium. 

Any player interested in trying out for the team and unable to make one or both of the tryout dates should email coach Aaron Wallace at awallace.zhc@gmail.com prior to the first tryout.

Berger breaks school record

Sam Berger, a 2012 Zionsville Community High school graduate, recently broke a school record in the 800 meter on Saturday, June 9, at the Midwest Meet of Champions at Northrop High School in Fort Wayne.

Berger finished fourth in the event with a time of 1:54.50. He is headed to Princeton this fall to continue his running career.
