Sorensen an All-American at the midwest gala

Dylan Sorensen wasn’t going to sit around all summer after graduating for Zionsville Community High School a on Sunday, June 7.

Instead, the Georgetown bound Sorensen took his distance running on a tour, placing well in two recent meets.

At the Midwest Distance Gala Saturday, June 13 in Lisle, Ill., Sorensen placed fourth in the two-mile race, featuring some of the best runners in the Midwest. He ran a 9:08.87 for the two miles, which translates to 9:05.74 for the 3,200-meter run (which runners compete in high school meets).

The time was a lifetime best for Sorensen, who ran 9:21.94 to set the Zionsville school record at the IHSAA Regional.

One week later, Sorensen was at the Nike Outdoor Nationals Meet in Greensboro, N.C. on Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20.

Sorensen earned All-American honors for the second time this year, placing sixth in the mile with a time of 4:14.51. In the fall, Sorensen earned All-American honors in placing 15th at the Foot Locker Nationals Cross Country race in San Diego, Calif. One day earlier, Sorensen was running the two mile once again, placing 22nd in a time of 9:25.36.

Sorensen will have one more stop on his summer running tour, competing in the USA Junior Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. this weekend competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
