Eagles lacrosse continues to soar
Zionsville Varsity played three games this week and kept their undefeated season alive with victories over Guerin, Center Grove, and Trinity High Schools. Trinity is a private school based in Louisville, Ky. that typically contends for the state championship each year. Wednesday night, April 8, the Eagles played Guerin at home with a final score of 18-1. Phillip McDowell for the Eagles had five goals and five assists in the game.
Friday evening, April 10, the Eagles traveled to Center Grove to play a game under the lights and rain in its stadium field. McDowell provided the team with another dominating performance as he scored six goals in the game. Kyle Prust also provided scores for the Eagles in the game. The defense for the Eagles provided a dominating performance as well with the help of Mack Hamilton, Will Precup, Adam Braun, Logan Guckien, Adam Collins, and Jeff Rawson, who held Center Grove to only 2 shots on goal for the entire game. The final score was 22-1 for the Eagle victory.
Saturday, April 11, Zionsville traveled to Louisville, where both the JV and Varsity teams faced Trinity. The JV team shut out Trinity with a score of 10-0. This is the second game for the JV team which is now 2-0 for the season. The varsity team won in a intense battle with a score of 9 to 6 with four goals from Tyler Dicke and three goals from Tom Spoonmore. The varsity team is now 5-0 for the season.
Upcoming games for the boys high school lacrosse program include both JV and Varsity games against Noblesville at home tonight in the ZCHS stadium field with the JV starting at 5:30 and varsity at 7:30 p.m. Saturday both teams play Park Tudor with JV starting at noon and varsity playing at 2 p.m.
Zionsville Middle School 7/8 Team Off to a Strong Start
The Zionsville Middle School 7/8 White Team traveled to Louisville to play a Kentucky All-star Middle School team. While the Eagles jumped out to an early three goal lead, the game continued to remain close in a battle between two solid teams. Both teams traded goals for the remainder of the game with the Eagles lead cut down to only one goal with two minutes remaining to play. With the score at 8-7, the Kentucky team streaked down the field on a fast break to position a player with an open shot at point blank range on the Zionsville goalie, Ryan Spoonmore. With 12 seconds remaining, Spoonmore stops the shot with the biggest save of the game to seal the Eagle victory. Goals for the Eagles were scored by Bill Nicholas, Connor Lantz, Ryan Broderick, Ben Sherman, Luke Whitaker and Eric Regele.
The next games for the 7/8 lacrosse teams are Wednesday night, April 15 against Westfield in the ZCMS stadium field, where the white team plays at 5:30 p.m. and the green team plays at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 18. Both green and white teams travel to Evansville to play one of the few teams in southern Indiana. Sunday, April 19, the Eagles are home again at the ZCMS field where they play Homestead and Bloomington at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Zionsville boys’ tennis team has won five consecutive sectional titles.

Eagles shut down Mavericks
Zionsville running back Kyle Hatton played a pivotal role Friday, Aug. 27, against visiting McCutcheon in the home opener for the Eagles in their new stadium. Hatton carried the ball 15 times for 171 yards and a touchdown while helping his team to a 24-3 victory over the Mavericks. The junior could not have envisioned a better way to break in the new digs.
