Boys track team wins first meet of season

The Zionsville boys’ track and field team opened up their season with a win Tuesday, March 20, at Lebanon.

In the tri-meet against Lebanon and Ritter, the Eagles won nine of 17 events.

Senior Ryan Stack took home victories in the 100 and 200 meter sprints for the Eagles. Senior Brian Groen won the 400 meter sprint with a time of 52.9. In the 800 meter sprint, junior Mason Herhusky finished first and junior Ty Abbitt placed third.

The 1600 meter race featured a 1-4 sweep for Zionsville with Ryan Conrad winning and Mason Herhusky, Alexander Niksch and Max Gernhard rounding out the top four.

In the 3200 meter race, the Eagles again swept the top four positions with Conrad winning again. Brian Rice placed second, Niksch finished third and Andrew Brake was in fourth.

The 4x400 relay team of Joey Lupinski, Adam Kern, Kyle Bailey, Cameron McCullough placed first. Zionsville then won the 4x800 relay with Brake, Tyler Keen, Adam Corya and Rice.

In the discus event, senior Trevor Adkinson placed first with a throw of 142’0 and finishing second was junior Jimmy Morrison with a throw of 132’4.
