7-year-olds place fourth
The Zionsville Green All-Star 7-year-olds placed fourth in the Fall Creek Tournament this past weekend. On Saturday, June 27, the Screamin’ Eagles split a doubleheader to qualify into the championship bracket. In the first game against the Hamilton Southeastern Blue Cats, Carson Chapman and Eli Bell were the big bats as both boys smashed doubles off the wall with Chapman going 3 for 3 in the game. He also scored 2 runs. Matt Mckay and Brandon Neu had fine defensive plays at second and shortstop as they each made diving stops to end Cat rallies. Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Cats beat the Eagles 14-6.
In the afternoon game, the Screamin’ Eagles came out swinging as they blasted the Fall Creek team 19-7. The top five hitters had three hits each. They were Christopher Freeman, Tate Eugenio, Mckay, Chapman, Neu and Bell. Eugenio scored 3 runs while Freeman, Mckay, Chapman and Bell each scored 2. Josh Carney and Colby Mellinger also contributed two hits and three runs scored each. Ben Brown made a nice catch in right field, but it was Zachary Mullens who made the play of the game with a diving catch in left field. The win put the Eagles into the championship round.
On Sunday, June 28, the Screamin’ Eagles’ bats could not get going losing a doubleheader to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Raiders and Hamilton Southeastern Red Cats, 15-4 and 10-4. Against the Raiders, Freeman had three hits and scored two runs while Chapman and Mullens had two hits each. Mckay and Neu played stellar defense as they made several diving stops and throws at second and shortstop.
In the third place game, the Cats bats were too much for the Eagles. Trey Belin and Mellinger were the big bats for the Eagles as they collected two hits each with Belin scoring two runs. Neu and Bell scored the other Eagle runs.
