Zionsville — A roller coaster of laughs and screams awaits audiences in a tale of murder and deception in Ira Levin’s 1978 Tony-award nominated comedy-thriller “Deathtrap,” opening Friday, March 16, and presented by Off-Main Street Players, Zionsville’s community theater.
“Deathtrap” will be presented in the Community Room at the Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St., for two weekends. Performances are scheduled 8 p.m. Fridays, March 16 and 23; 8 p.m. Saturdays, March 17 and 24; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18. Tickets are $15.
Sidney Bruhl (Larry Adams of Pittsboro) is a successful writer of Broadway thrillers who has hit a literary dry spell, resulting in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break occurs when he receives a script from a student — Clifford Anderson (Jaime Johnson of Brownsburg) — in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college. Sidney recognizes the thriller as a potential Broadway hit and, with help from his wife Myra (Susan McClelland of Zionsville), devises a plan to offer collaboration to the student. Rounding out the cast are Helga Ten Dorp (Kari Ann Stamatoplos of Indianapolis), a psychic; and Sydney’s attorney, Porter (Paul Gootee of Zionsville). Sam Fogleman is the director.
Suspense mounts steadily as the plot begins to twist and turn with devilish cleverness, and with such an abundance of thrills and humor, audiences will be enthralled through the final, startling moments of the play.
