Zionsville —
Village Dance Studio students recently danced like professional dancers to raise more than $380 for the American Cancer Society. Students earned money for each dance move or position they did during the week of Oct. 15 through 20, including jumps, arabesques and plies. The studio donated the money to Making Strides for Breast Cancer on behalf of the students. Students of all ages also had fun wearing pink tutus and dancing with pink scarves throughout the week. In addition to dancing, some students and families also made financial donations as part of the studio’s fundraiser.
Village Dance Studio Ballet II students Heidi Wendowski (left), Ava Bankert (middle) and Janie Isakson (right) brought in their own money for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraiser. Isakson, 8, raked leaves for neighbors and did odd jobs around the house for her mom.
“Janie was excited to help (VDS director) Mrs. Pettigrew because it was a great cause,” Janie’s mom, Kim Isakson said. “She wanted to help sick people. She said she would appreciate it if people would help her, too, if she was ever sick.”
Village Dance Studio, located just outside Zionsville in the Boys and Girls Club West, 5964 S. County Road 700 East, Whitestown, supports at least one different cause each year. Director Annette Pettigrew and studio employee Traci Pettigrew walked in the recent Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in downtown Indianapolis and then donated the money raised by the dancers and studio.
