I got an email from Joann Fabric and Craft Store letting me know that September is national sewing month.
They are having various sales and events, which appeal to those inclined toward textile arts. I have to admit to a certain amount of excitement about this news. I love to sew and have been doing it most of my life. But seriously a national month of sewing? How does that even happen?
Big surprise, there is an official organization and website. According to nationalsewingmonth.org, “the observance of National Sewing Month began in 1982 with a proclamation from President Ronald Reagan declaring September as National Sewing Month in recognition of the importance of home sewing to our nation.”
