There is always something to do.
This is what I tell my kids when they claim to be bored. I like to offer housecleaning opportunities to fill their leisure time, the suggestion of which inspires a sudden desire to do anything but clean.
I have also tried telling them, “Only boring people are bored” — a wise adage I found on Pinterest — but something was lost in translation, and they thought I was calling them boring. This did not sit well with my particularly sensitive 6-year-old daughter, who burst into tears while I assured her that she is, indeed, a fascinating individual.
But some days — especially those that are rainy, too cold, too hot, or too sick to do anything exciting — it’s helpful to have a bank of ideas for indoor fun.
