Barry M. Schmit

Mr. Barry Marshall Schmit, 56, of Whitestown, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at his residence in Whitestown.

Barry Marshall Schmit was born on Dec. 2, 1956 , in Orange, Calif., the son of Mary Ellen (Rogers) Schmit and the now late Kenneth G. Schmit.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet (Mahoney) Schmit, who died in 2002.

The Schmit family lived in several Southern California cities including San Diego, Highland and Claremont. The family also lived for a period of time in Basking Ridge, N.J., where Barry graduated from Ridge High School. Following graduation he entered the U.S. Air Force and served his country honorably.

Barry eventually moved to Las Vegas, Nev., and began working at Medco Health Solutions as an IT Systems Engineer. In 2008, Barry moved to Whitestown to assist with establishment of Medco’s facility, located in Whitestown.

Barry had a Harlequin Macaw named, Apache, whom he raised and trained for a number of years. The two could frequently be seen riding on Barry’s bicycle throughout the Boone County area. Barry was an avid builder of bicycles and thoroughly enjoyed riding them.

Survivors include his mother Mrs. Mary Ellen Schmit of Claremont, Calif.; brother Mr. Glenn Schmit and wife, Melissa, of Adairsville, Ga.; sisters Mrs. Dana Wood and husband, Steve, of Etiwanda, Calif., Ms. Brenda Schmit of Claremont, Mrs. Karen Garay and husband, William, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Ms. Cynthia Schmit of Los Angeles; five nieces and five nephews; special friends Suzanne Picerno and Nico Gray Picerno; and many, many others.

Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, is entrusted with his arrangements for cremation.
