H. Carl Smith of Sarasota, Fla.
H. Carl Smith, 88, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Ellettsville, died on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at the Doctor’s Hospital in Sarasota.
He was born into the home of James O. Smith and Madeline (Bartlett) Turner on Nov. 2, 1921 in Ellettsville. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. in WWII. He taught and coached at Edgewood High School in Ellettsville. He had worked for the American Lung Association and was the director of the American Heart Association in Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Amza Turner; and brothers, Marvin Smith and Frank Turner.
He is survived by his sons, Kruth Blaine Smith of Ellettsville; Naaman Bryan Smith of Bonita Springs, Fla;, Mendel Gates Smith of Zionsville; Tylin Juan Smith of Naples, Fla; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and sisters, Norma Roberts and Martha Russell, both of Ellettsville.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27 at Methodist Cemetery in Ellettsville. Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville is assisting the family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, 6100 W. 96th St., Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46278-6005.
