Carroll Weber Hasewinkel of Carmel

Carroll Weber Hasewinkel, M.D., 97, of Carmel, died Monday, July 30, 2012.

Dr. Hasewinkel was born to Rev. Herbert and Agnes Weber Hasewinkel on March 24, 1915 in West Salem, Ill.; they preceded him in death as did two of his sons, James and Timothy.

Education was the cornerstone of his very successful career in medicine which began when he graduated from Elberfeld High School in Elberfeld in 1932. From there, his educational journey continued at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. where he graduated in 1936. The culmination of his formal education was in 1941 with his graduation from the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Following his graduation from IU, Dr. Hasewinkel became a medical officer in the 16th Medical Regiment of General Mark Clark’s Fifth Army during the North African and Italian campaigns of World War II; he received a Purple Heart for burns sustained near Naples, Italy in 1943, which eventually led to an Honorable Discharge after his faithful service to his country during World War II.

Upon his return to Indianapolis, Dr. Hasewinkel continued his dedicated service to others by beginning his long and successful career as an anesthesiologist at Methodist Hospital. It was a career that spanned five decades from January 1949 until his retirement in June 1987.

In spite of a demanding career, Dr. Hasewinkel enjoyed a diverse life full of life’s simple pleasures, which included gardening, spending time at his family’s farm in Illinois and being a private pilot. It seemed only natural that his service to others was part of his private life too. He was a faithful member of Crooked Creek Baptist church and in later years enjoyed membership and fellowship at the Zionsville Lions Club.

Dr. Hasewinkel is survived by his wife, Crystal Fox Hasewinkel; his sons, Dr. John (Christina) Hasewinkel and Dr. Thomas (Kaye) Hasewinkel; his daughter, Tamar (Evan) Meeks; and granddaughters, Abigail, Sarah, Rachel, Holland, Leah and Tatum.

A service celebrating his life and faith was Saturday, Aug. 4, at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville; Rev. Thomas Bartley officiated. A private burial followed at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crooked Creek Baptist Church, 5540 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46228. Online condolences may be made at wwww.flannerbuchanan.com.
