Martha Welles Morgan Burns passed away June 16, 2009 at the age of 89 . She was born July 5, 1919 in Wethersfield, Conn. to the late Samuel W. and Blanche (Churchill) Morgan.
A graduate of Colby College in London, N.H., she married John Edward Burns, Jr. on July 3, 1943. They lived in Indianapolis for many years.
Burns was a loving wife and a very involved mother of four. She was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was active in St. Ursula’s Guild, the Altar Guild and the church choir. She was a member of the Indianapolis Museum of Art Alliance Board and a docent. She managed the store at the Indiana State Museum for many years. She was also a member of Woodstock Country Club and the Scottish Society.
Burns is survived by her husband, John E. Burns, Jr.; children, Sarah Torgeson, Martha O’Driscoll (Cyril), John E. Burns III (Debi), and Barbara Munson (Jerry); and grandchildren, Margaret Spindlow (Sam), John O’Driscoll, Lillian Munson, Nels Munson and Jennifer Burns.
A funeral service was Monday afternoon, June 22 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3243 N. Meridian St.
