Max Eugene Turley of Zionsville

Max Eugene Turley, 91, of Zionsville died Wednesday evening, January 9, 2013.  Max was born June 3, 1921 in Whitestown, IN to Lawrence L. and Edith R. Byrkett Turley; they preceded him in death as did his brother, Meredith Turley.

Max was a 1939 graduate of Zionsville High School and a member of the Class of 44’ at Indiana University.  He was metallurgical chemist at PR Mallory, now known as CMW, for many years before retiring in 1991 after turning 70.

Known for his quick wit and keen insights, Max enjoyed IU basketball, collecting coins, stamps, toys and being in the company of his family and friends.  He was a member of Zionsville United Methodist Church, a 70 year and second longest tenured member of Charles F. Frank Masonic Lodge No. 760 in Zionsville.  He was also a 60 year member of the American Chemical Society.

Max is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Marjorie M. Harding Turley whom he wed at Zionsville United Methodist Church in May of 1945.  Also surviving is his son, Michael Eugene Turley; his nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 pm, Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville with a Masonic memorial service beginning at 5 pm.  A funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday, January 14, 2013 also at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville.  Burial will follow at Zionsville Cemetery.
