RDC OKs incentives for Harris project

$250,000 slated for development

Zionsville — The South Village project is one step closer to breaking ground on the west side of Zionsville Road south of Eagle Creek.

The Zionsville Redevelopment Commission approved Monday night, Dec. 17, providing $250,000 in incentives for the project, which would include a Bub’s Burgers and mixed retail. The final vote was 3 to 0 since RDC President Mike Latz was not at the meeting and Commissioner Carol Marquiss had to recuse herself from voting because of a conflict of interest.

The Harris FLP, which is developing the project, asked for the money to be used for site development costs, including utility installations and other improvements required for the project’s completion.

According to the agreement, Harris FLP will invest $3 million in real estate improvements.

Commissioner John Tousley felt uneasy that the agreement did not have a personal guarantee made by Harris FLP to complete the project.

“I am trying to maintain consistency,” he said. “We ask so much more when we give out a micro-loan for $12,000 than we do when we are asked to give $250,000.”
