Commissioners say steel bridge is still an option

Installation of a refurbished, decades-old steel truss bridge for Ford Road over Eagle Creek has not yet been scrapped.

Funding for the bridge was canceled by the Boone County Council, but Boone County Commissioner Marc Applegate said Monday, Aug. 20, that he thinks the steel bridge is still an option.

“It’s my feeling we ought to go to the (county) council one more time,” Applegate said. “If they are not willing to fund this, then we have no other option than to do nothing.”

Neither the text of a resolution Applegate submitted for consideration, nor Commissioner Jeff Wolfe’s rebuttal to points in the document, were available at press time.

    The Zionsville Community Schools Board of Trustees, at its Monday, June 10 meeting, authorized Superintendent Scott Robison to move forward on capital projects totalling more than $15.2 million — with the stipulation that the projects don’t go over the proposed budget and that the board will have input throughout the process.
