Boone will join Clinton, Hendricks, Montgomery and Tippecanoe counties in an informal regional agreement intended to attract new businesses to the region.
Dax Norton, Boone County Economic Development Corp. executive director, said he will work with his counterparts in those counties to develop a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, after a recent meeting at which they agreed to pursue the idea.
Having a CEDS will allow all of the counties to apply for grants from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, an agency of the Commerce Department.
“We believe we’re missing the boat” Norton said. “Because we don’t have a CEDS, we can’t apply for EDA money ... we don’t want to be left out.”
