CNH managers keep a promise
Dozens of employees at Case New Holland in Lebanon Business Park took a mid-morning break Friday to watch their managers get a haircut.
The managers had promised that if the company reached its $15,000 fundraising goal for the United Way of Central Indiana, they would shave their heads.
“I didn’t think they’d actually make the goal,” said Julio Garamvolgyi, human resources manager, during his turn in the barber chair.
Keith Hansen, director of operations for the Lebanon plant, said he mentioned the idea to his wife a while ago, but he hadn’t reminded her since.
“I’m going to surprise her tonight,” he said. “You’ll hear the screams all the way from Carmel.”
Seven managers had their heads shaved: Garamvolgyi; Hansen; Roy Barron, operations manager; Anthony South, facility manager; Sonny Marijono, continuous improvement manager; Frank Vega, express manager; and Stephen Lincoln, operations manager — who brought a box of tissues to say good-bye to his curly locks.
The cuts were provided by Kirk Klemme of Klemme’s Barber Shop.
CNH raised a total of more than $16,000, said Jill Troha, Boone County area director of the UWCI. The total was more than double last year’s goal and, with a match by Eli Lily, it will mean at least $30,000 for UWCI.
“CNH has a real corporate commitment to philanthropy,” Troha said. “The team really stepped up, knowing it would be a difficult year.”
To encourage giving, the employees voted to see the managers dress up as women to serve them a Thanksgiving meal, Troha said.
“I’m awfully proud of our organization,” Hansen said. “It just shows we know how to give.”
