Memorial Library events

• Heroes’ Tree — Beginning Nov. 1, a tree featuring handmade ornaments created by community members to honor a service member will be displayed in Youth Services. Individuals of all ages are encouraged to participate. Ideas and free ornament templates are available at the reference desks. Ornaments will be displayed throughout the holiday season.

• Mosaic Magic — 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4, ages K through third. See how harvest seeds can be used to make a mosaic picture of autumn. Registration required.

• Reader’s Theater Club — 4 p.m., Thursday Nov. 5, 12, 19 and Dec. 3, grades third through fifth. Practice begins for a performance of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, during the library’s annual Holiday Stroll. Registration required.

• Cookie Crunch — 10 a.m. or 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, ages 3 to 6. Help us Celebrate Cookie Monster’s birthday in a very sweet way. Registration required.

• Cookie Decorating —

4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, ages 3 to 6. Settle that sweet tooth with a cookie that you decorate. Registration required.

• Turkey Tales — 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10, grades K through fifth. Indiana author Peggy Archer will share her book “Turkey Surprise” as we celebrate the coming holiday with stories, songs and a craft. Registration required.

• Preparing for the Holidays: Needle Felting will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Share an evening of crafting and coffee as Zionsville resident Bonnie Carter teaches the process of felting wool with a specialized barbed needle and without the use of water.

• Wii Play Games from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Students in grades 6 through 12 are invited to play games in the teen area of the library. Registration is not required.

• Food for Fines begins Sunday, Nov. 15 and runs through Tuesday, Dec. 15. Erase overdue fines and help others. Each $1 in overdue fines can be paid with a nonperishable food item. Glass containers cannot be accepted. Proceeds will benefit Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana.

• Story Stop — 4:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16, first and second grades. Explore different themes each month. Registration required.

• Traveling Songs and Games will be presented from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Families may join Laugh’n Laura and Kazoo’n Kelli for a tremendous time of singing and games that you can take on the road. Registration required.

• Friends of the Library will meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Interested adults are invited to attend. Membership is not required. Registration is not required.

• Medicare 2010 Preview — 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6. No applications will be taken, but Adrienne Bough from AMBough Insurance will preview the 2010 Medicare packages. Registration required.

• Les Girls Craft Group — 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11. Bring your yarn or craft project and join the fun.

• Sign up now for December art classes.

• Ask the Physician — Noon to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11 in the Community Room. Dr. Valerie Bruemmer and Jean Kolp, MSN, RN, FNP will speak. Lunch provided by Homewood for the first 15 registrants. Attendees must register to receive lunch.

• Pumpkin Smashing — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 22. Join us for a smashing good time. Bring your old pumpkins to smash and add to our compost pile. Free.

• Simply Gourd-geous — 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7 and 8. Suggested ages 7 and up. Create nature inspired holiday decorations from gourds. Cost is $3 and all supplies are included.

• Sleepy Snakes and Tired Turtles — 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 14 and 15. Learn what happens to some of Indiana’s reptiles during winter. Free. Optional crafts are available.

Opening reception

at SullivanMunce

The SullivanMunce Cultural Center is pleased to announce the opening of its newest exhibition, Influence: Impact of Culture on Art from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6. The exhibit showcases work of area high school students and will continue through Nov. 28. Admission to the Nov. 6 reception is free.



Woman’s Club

to meet

The Woman’s Club of Zionsville will meet at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6 at the Zionsville United Methodist Church. Barbara Wright will be presenting a program entitled “Dewey.”



See live birds of prey

At 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, the Zion Nature Center will present Mark Booth and his magnificent birds of prey. See hawks and falcons up close. This free presentation is made possible through support of the Kiwanis and will take place at the Zionsville Town Hall.



Ace Party Rental

has food drive

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, the community is asked to drop of canned food items to benefit Gleaners Food Bank. Donation sites are Serenity and Patrick’s Kitchen & Drinks. Each donor will be rewarded with a gift certificate to the corresponding drop off location redeemable in January. Ace Party Rental will be a collection site for the remainder of the month. Winter warm up drive planned

The Kappa Theta (Zionsville) Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International will conduct “Hope for Heros: Project Winter Warm-Up for Homeless Veterans” by hosting a collection drive from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Akard True-Value Hardware in Boone Village.

Bring new winter wear and personal care items to be distributed to homeless veterans who are served by the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Indianapolis. During the event, the community is also invited to create or bring an appreciation card, which will be given to a veteran receiving care at the VA Hospital.

ZBOP Gala slated

Phil Dirt & The Dozers, America’s premier “Rock ‘N R’oldies” review is coming. Experience the ultimate musical journey to the 50s, 60s and 70s. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Zionsville Band and Orchestra patrons program. Tickets are now on sale for the Nov. 7 show, to be held at the Zionsville Performing Arts Center. Safe Sitter classes offered

The Boys & Girls Club of Zionsville is offering Safe Sitter Classes from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. Children age 11 to 13 years are eligible to attend. The cost is $55 per person. Call 873-6670 for more information.



Chamber hosts

Civic Banquet

Eli Lilly Federal Credit Union presents the Boone County Chamber of Commerce Annual Civic Banquet. This event will be held on Monday, Nov. 9 at Palomino Ballroom. Registration begins at 5 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m. Space is limited. The cost is $50 for chamber members and $60 for non-members. Call (765) 482-1320 to make reservations.



Market Day presents Pie Month

Market Day is featuring fourteen pies and desserts for sale this month. Qualifying dessert purchases for November earn a free 12 oz. bag of Cups for Hope coffee. Orders may be placed online by 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at www.marketday.com using account No. 5941. Order forms can be dropped off at the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library or any of the school offices before Nov. 11. Pick up for orders will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16.



Le’Ecole Francaise has class openings

The before school French language program for K through fourth graders has second quarter openings. At 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, there will be a “Bring a Friend to French Day” at Zionsville United Methodist Church, 9644 Whitestown Road.

CWF Bazaar/Soup Cook-off and Luncheon slated

The Zionsville Christian Church CWF Bazaar/Soup Cook-off Luncheon will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14. Luncheon will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be homemade candies, cookies, cakes, pies, noodles and more.

‘Focus on Parenting’ simulcast set at ZPC

Zionsville Presbyterian Church is hosting a nationwide simulcast “Focus on Parenting” from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14.

This conference offers a unique spiritual perspective on raising godly kids. Participants will receive wisdom, encouragement and practical tools from leading parenting experts. This event is designed for parents with children of all ages.
