• Zumba — 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21. Dance your way to Latin America with instructor Dorit Tomandl.

• Introduction to Ancestry.com — 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21. Learn the basics of searching this database. Discover new ways to search for family history online.

• Pumpkin and Garden Pageant — 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, for families. Children will display their gardening success down the runway. Bring a flower arrangement or vegetable display. Bring a pumpkin or veggie treat to serve following the pageant. Registration is required.

• The Soloist film and discussion — 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26. The 2008 movie, rated PG-13, will be screened. Pastor of Spirituality and the Visual Arts at St. Luke United Methodist Church, Dr. Max Case, will lead a discussion after the showing with Jane Rulon, former head of the Indiana Film Commission. Participants will compare and contrast the retelling of The Soloist as told through the book and movie.

• Fall Break Movie — 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 27. Teens enjoy a movie with popcorn and lemonade.

• Monster Mash — 10 a.m. or 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, ages 3 to 6. Shake and rattle those bones into the library for some not-so-frightening monster fun. Costumes welcome. Registration is required.

• Ghostly Gathering — 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, grades 3 to 5. Share some ghostly tales, enjoy a hauntingly good snack and make a “boo-tiful” picture that will magically appear from the dark night. Registration is required.

• Beginning/ Intermediate Ceramics — 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 21 to Dec. 16. (No class on Nov. 25.) Designed for those who have never worked with or have very little experience in clay. Students will learn how to construct clay objects and utilitarian forms while exploring traditional hand-building methods such as coiling, slab constructions and throwing on the wheel.

• Beginning Hand-Building — 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 22 to Dec. 17. (No class on Nov. 26). Designed for the student who has very little or no experience with clay. The students will learn how to construct hand-built objects with coil, pinch and slab techniques. The class will concentrate first on small objects such as tiles, boxes, rattles and plates, then move on to build larger objects such as platters, planters and vases. One 25-pound bag of clay is included with class fee. Tools are available in the studio.

Voting for

scarecrows

The Zionsville Merchants Association is hosting “Scarecrows on Parade.”

Scarecrows have cropped up along the streets of Zionsville. Vote for your favorite. Scarecrows will be judged on creativity, likeness to business or organization and most original. Vote online for the People’s Choice Award at www.zionsville.net.

All online voting participants will be entered into the ZMA Fall Giveaway Drawing. People’s Choice Awards will be announced in the Zionsville Times Sentinel on Wednesday, Oct. 28.



Purdue Club of Boone County meets

The Purdue Club of Boone County will meet on Thursday, Oct. 22 at Stookey’s Restaurant in Thorntown. Reservations for the 6:30 p.m. dinner may be made by calling Jane Hammock at (765) 482-3931. Guest speaker from Purdue will be Paul Lusk, associate head coach of men’s basketball. Accompanying Lusk will be Mike Braughton, a director of the John Purdue Club.



Safe Sitter classes offered

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Zionsville is offering Safe Sitter Classes from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 24 (participants will be certified with just one class). Your child must be 11 to 13 years old (you cannot be 10 or 14) to attend these classes. Go to the East Club, 1575 Mulberry St., to sign up. The cost is $55 per person (checks should be made out to Nancy LaFon). There is a limited number of participants per class and we have to know by the Tuesday before each class. If we do not have six participants, we will cancel the class and you will be notified to reschedule. Call 873-6670 with questions.



Women’s Conference set

Dover Christian Church will host their fourth Annual Women’s Conference “Abundant Blessings” from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. This year’s presentation will be “Star Queen” by Tommy and John Thomas Oaks, a musical based on the story of Queen Esther. Also speaking this year are Jody Burks and Christine Roys. Tickets are $10 each, with lunch and childcare provided. Call (765) 482-3686 for more information or to register.



Cornerstone Baptist hosts presentation

Pre-carved pumpkin contest announced

Children grades K through 5 can enter a pre-carved pumpkin contest from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 in front of the Lebanon Public Library. Pumpkins will be judged and prizes awarded.
