State Sen. Mike Delph (R-Carmel) has filed bill to reward academic excellence to schools such as Zionsville.
Delph’s proposal, Senate Bill 189, would grant high-performing districts state regulatory relief from rigid requirements generating new and improved academic innovation in the classroom.
“The goal is to create an academic environment where next generational techniques and training can inspire Hoosier students to learn even more,” Delph said. “This is a natural step in our effort to improve public education in Indiana.”
This is the second year he has brought the idea before the Indiana General Assembly for the first time as a stand-alone bill proposal.
The bill allows top school corporations to have more discretion in its administrative and instructional organization. Provisions included in the bill are freedom to choose, develop and implement their own curriculum; freedom to construct their own design for teacher and staff evaluations; freedom from state regulation dealing with high ability students; freedom to create own plan for career and technical training; and freedom to organize classroom time based on instructional minutes instead of the current 180-day school year requirement.
