Jack R. L. Bower, 24, Frankfort, suffered major injuries to his back and head at about 5:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, when he was thrown from his Chevrolet pickup on U.S. 421 at the intersection of County Road 850 North.
A male passenger identified as B.B.H. Darren, 20, address unknown, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, according to a press release from Boone County Sherifff’s Office Cpl. Chris Burcham.
“Bower was unrestrained and was ejected from his vehicle,” Burcham said. “The crash is still under investigation by the Boone County Crash Team.”
It appeared that Bower lost control of the truck, leaving the right side of the road and flipping onto its top.
Boone County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Mike Nielsen, the first officer on the scene, almost immediately asked dispatchers for a medivac helicopter and rescue units from the Kirklin Fire Department.
While Bower was being placed in the helicopter, U.S. 421 was closed between 750 N and 850 N; traffic was being diverted onto those roads.
