Some residents that are in the rural area of Zionsville may be reclassified to the urban area.
The Zionsville Town Council will hold a public hearing on the issue during their Monday, July 2, meeting.
The council is considering reclassifying the subdivisions of Irishman’s Run, Fox Hollow, The Willows, Willow Glen, Willow Ridge, Hidden Pines, Bridlewood and Northwest Technology Park.
During the council’s agenda meeting on May 21, Councilwoman Candace Ulmer said she was unsure of what the positive impact would be if the council did reclassify the properties.
“I don’t see any impact on the circuit breaker,” she said. “I just don’t see how it’s going to be a positive impact. My concern is that we are only pushing the cap up, which is deducted from all the other departments in the budget.”
Council President Tim Haak said during the May 21 meeting the cap would shrink in the future.
“As property values go up, the caps would shrink,” he said. “Now is the optimal time to do it because otherwise we would be caught behind the curve.”
The public hearing will take place at 7 p.m. July 2, in the Town Hall Beverly Harves Room, 1100 W. Oak St.
