Zionsville — The Zionsville Town Council is one step closer to voting on a new stormwater utility fee, which may cause in increase to Zionsville residents’ utility bill.
The council was ready to vote on the ordinance during their meeting Monday, Aug. 6, but councilors Jeff Papa and Susana Suarez voted against passing it on the first reading. Ordinances may be passed on a first reading if the vote is unanimous.
Suarez said she was against the fee because she did not want to add a new level of government since the fee would result in a new department within the town.
“I am 100 percent supportive of the efforts,” she said. “However, as much as I believe we should support clean water, I do not believe the expansion of government is appropriate. I strive in my beliefs and actions to limit government.”
