Assisted living plans OK’d
The Zionsville Plan Commission voted 6-1 Monday, July 21, to approve the plans for an assisted living building on U.S. 421 north of State Road 334; William Ferree dissented.
The 5.7 acre, 131-bed facility called The Hearth at Zionsville, to be located at 11700 N. U.S 421, will have two wings. One would be a 30-bed Alzheimer’s wing, the other section for those needing moderate-to-intensive assistance.
At its June meeting the plan commission had concerns with the size of the 43-foot tall building, and wanted to better visualize how the structure would be viewed — especially from U.S. 421. The building would sit 120 feet from the edge of a sidewalk along the road, and the commission wanted to use as much of that land as possible to hide the building with trees, making it appear smaller.
Plan commission President Lana Funkhouser said at the June meeting she would like to see more detailed measures taken to “soften the impact” of the structure. When the attorney for the project, Jeffrey Jacob of Andreoli and Jacob, revealed a new rendering of the building at the July 21 meeting, he said to the commission “we are very, very hopeful that’s what you are looking for.” Jacob said more landscaping was added and five parking spaces were moved to the back of the building, with a total of 33 spaces in the back and 30 in the front.
Funkhouser said the developers had “put a good deal of thought into the landscaping.”
Jacob said construction should start within the year.
