Battle brews over Worth

The battle for Worth Township is on. Whitestown countered Zionsville’s plan to annex most of Worth Township Tuesday night, Nov. 13, when the Whitestown Town Council introduced an ordinance and passed a fiscal plan to annex portions of Worth Township. This included parts of the same area Zionsville wants to annex. Zionsville announced its annexation plans on Nov. 7, the day after a referendum to merge Whitestown and Worth failed.

Whitestown Town Council President Dawn Semmler said the annexation is about protecting the town’s vision.

“We have about four and a half years of planning with all of our projects through town, such as the Heritage Trail and downtown revitalization,” she said. “This is about our future for the town. It was to protect four years of planning, taxpayer money and grants. We have thousands of dollars worth of grants in all of the projects. (Zionsville’s) annex affects all of that. This is not just about Whitestown, this is about Boone County.”
