Nearly 3,000 Boone County home owners could see their property tax bills triple next year by failing to verify they have a homestead credit.
Property owners received a “Form 11” on pink paper with tax bills mailed in March, but thousands of people have failed to return the forms, which allows them to deduct $45,000 from their property tax bill.
A property in Zionsville with an assessed value of $162,500 would be billed an estimated $1,625 with a $45,000 homestead credit and a $34,965 supplemental homestead deduction said Deana Polgar, a deputy with the Boone County Auditor’s office.
