Four Zionsville lawyers recognized

by Chambers USA

INDIANAPOLIS — Four Zionsville residents who practice law at Baker & Daniels LLP have been recognized in a national report of U.S. lawyers and law firms.

In the seventh annual edition of Chambers USA: A Guide to America’s Leading Business Lawyers, Patrick S. Cross, Regina M. Sharrow and Robert “Rob” S. Wynne were honored in the corporate/mergers and acquisitions practice area. Joseph “Jay” H. Yeager Jr. was recognized in litigation — general commercial. All four, who are partners at the firm, also were honored in 2008.

Baker & Daniels was ranked in the No. 1 category among Indiana law firms for all four practice areas in the rankings: corporate/mergers & acquisitions, labor & employment, litigation — general commercial, and real estate.

In addition, 22 Baker & Daniels lawyers were recognized individually in the 2009 report, 11 of whom earned first rankings in their respective practice areas.

Attorney receives award for pro bono dedication

INDIANAPOLIS — Drew Soshnick of Zionsville, a partner at Baker & Daniels, was among the law firm’s 11 individuals recognized with the Charles L. Whistler Pro Bono Award for exceptional dedication to pro bono and public interest work.

Soshnick prepared a domestic relations mediation training program with Indiana University-Bloomington for lawyers from across Indiana to become certified in conducting mediations for low income and unrepresented populations. He served as co-faculty for the five-day, 40-hour training, which provides 120 families with pro bono domestic relations mediation services. He participated in the Bet Tzedek Holocaust Survivors Justice Network, a program that offers pro bono assistance to Holocaust survivors with their applications for reparations from the German government.

In exchange for the free training and education program, attending lawyers agreed to conduct five pro bono mediations. Thus, the training provided 120 families throughout Indiana with an opportunity to receive pro bono domestic relations mediation services. Soshnick continues to serve as a resource for lawyers who participated in the training.

The pro bono award was established in memory of Charles “Chuck” L. Whistler, a former partner at the firm who set the standard for leadership, public service and community involvement during his time at Baker & Daniels. Each year, Baker & Daniels presents the award to individuals who have gone above and beyond in dedicating their time, energy and effort to improve and expand access to justice for underserved individuals and communities.

In his legal practice, Soshnick leads the firm’s family law practice from the downtown Indianapolis office.
