Families enjoyed sleigh rides all evening Friday, Nov. 30, at the VIP Christmas celebration at the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library.
Leigh Ann Akard, VIP Christmas coordinator, said they had more than 400 people R.S.V.P. to the event.
“We were amazed with the turnout,” she said. “We were taken back by how many older adults came and their excitement for Santa and the holidays.
“It was truly a night full of gratitude, and we just walked away feeling the Christmas spirit.”
Akard said the event had a lot of support this year. The Behavior Analysis Center for Autism helped sponsor the event and supplied cookies to decorate, The St. Vincent Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital sponsored the photos and Zionsville photographer Janice VanGorder took the photos. Volunteer Dave Poindexter organized the elves along with the many other volunteers who helped with the event.
“Everyone was happy to help and just be there,” Akard said. “We created memories not only for ourselves but for everyone that attended.”

Fine ‘tune’ing for finale
Vocal students are preparing for their annual Show Choir Finale at 7 p.m. Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, in the Zionsville Performing Arts Center. The performance will feature the award-winning contest routines by both the Royalaires and Choralaires, other numbers done throughout the year, and various solos and ensemble groups. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the door or www.zvilleperformingarts.org.

Eagle Elementary kindergartener Erin Chrisofferson with her mom, Kate, leads a group of students to school Wednesday morning, May 8. The day was Bike to School Day, which encourages students and their parents to bike to school. The day was part of several events that are going on throughout the month of May, which is National Bike Month. Other events include Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17, and Bike to the Market Day on Saturday, May 25.
