Pancake drives golf tournament

Zionsville resident integral in bringing PGA Tour to Crooked Stick Golf Club

Zionsville — More than 150,000 people went through the turnstiles in September to watch the greatest golfers in the world, but one Zionsville man was behind the scenes making sure the event went off without a hitch.

Tony Pancake, director of golf and club operations at Crooked Stick Golf Course, said three years went into planning the PGA Tour’s BMW Championships.

“We made some changes to the course,” he said. “Our goal was to make the course challenging for the (PGA) tour players but keep it able to play for our core membership.”

Pancake said some of the modifications to the course included building new tee boxes, adding more bunkers and narrowing seven fairways.

Pancake said all of the buildings and tents that were built on the course was impressive.
