    Local artist Adam Seif helps out second-grade students at Eagle Elementary School. For one week in April, Mrs. Urbanski’s art classes at Eagle hosted Seif as part of the PTO-sponsored visiting artist program. Seif has written several children’s books and brought his new book, “The Smarts for Elementary School Survival” to show the students about being creative. Throughout the week, he demonstrated and helped students with drawing techniques and talked about how to find ideas for new stories and characters.

    Zackary Baldwin, a third-grade student at Perry Worth Elementary School, won the Association of Indiana Counties National County Government Week essay contest for the West Central District. Baldwin received $100 for winning the contest. This year’s theme was “Smart Justice: Creating Safer Communities.” Essays were judged on how well students communicated the county’s role in promoting safety and justice for its citizens. Baldwin, lower left, is pictured with his family at the AIC West Central district meeting.

    Home Depot employees help STEP students Wednesday, May 22. The employees helped the students build picnic tables that will be donated to Zionsville Community High School and used at the athletic fields.

    Nick Badger is sworn in as an Eagle Scout by Troop 358 Scout Master John Wiebke. Badger was recognized during a court of honor ceremony earlier this month at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church. Badger is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the highest ranking of Boy Scouts of America. Badger built a life-size crucifixion scene of Jesus on the cross, Mother Mary, Mary Magdalene and the Apostle John at the foot of the cross for his service project to earn the rank. Badger is the son of Jim and Denni Badger.

    Zionsville Community High School AP Physics and AP Calculus students learned a lot and had fun at the annual math and science day at King’s Island. The students joined students from schools in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and West Virginia to take the information and formulas learned in their classrooms and use them in real-world applications at the park.
