Zionsville —
Applications for county council appointments to various boards will be sought in October beginning next year, the council decided Tuesday, Dec. 11.
It’s an effort to increase public participation in government, Council President Steve Jacob said.
It’s been usual for those appointments to be made at the end of the year, Councilman Brent Wheat said. That has indirectly narrowed the field of applicants.
“As Councilman Wheat pointed out, the vast majority of these are end-of-year appointments,” County Attorney Bob Clutter said. If they wanted to follow the commissioner’s policy, the council could, in October, provide a list of the next year’s appointments, have that list published, set a deadline, and make the appointments in December.
