Tessa Mattingly had a banner night at the Boone County 4-H Sheep Show Sunday, July 22, which started by winning a pocket full of champion ribbons, and wrapped up by winning the master sheep showmanship competition.
In the middle, the 4-H’er came away with the banners for grand champion ewe and grand champion market lamb. Her ewe and lamb also took Boone County raised top honors.

SPRUCING UP
Lebanon Street Superintendent Larry Lee hangs a flower basket on the east side of the Boone County Courthouse Thursday afternoon, June 13, in preparation for the Red, White and Blues Festival last weekend on the Courthouse Square. Parks Director John Messenger requested $1,000 from the city council in April for flowers and hanging baskets, which will be reused each year.
The Boone County Council Tuesday, June 11, approved roughly $1.3 million for the summer road program to repair nearly 30 miles of county roads.
After what their lawyer called “a contentious call” with CSX Transportation officials, the Boone County Drainage Board agreed — reluctantly — to spend $19,700 on engineering studies before repairing a drainage ditch near a railroad crossing.
A new city swimming pool at Lebanon Memorial Park is officially a go after final funding approval by the Lebanon City Council at Monday’s meeting, June 10.
Thousands turn out for rodeo
Some 3,000 spectators turned out last weekend to witness events during the annual Indiana High School Rodeo Association Rodeo Bash at the Boone County Fairgrounds.
Hensell crowned Mrs. Boone County
In a contest so close the Mrs. Boone County Pageant organizers for the first time named a first runner-up, Angela Hensell was crowed 2013 Mrs. Boone County Saturday evening, June 8.
Local seniors achieve Eagle status
After eight years of scouting together, two Lebanon High School seniors, Joseph Alexander Plunkett and Luke Walker Everett, both received their Eagle Badges during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon recently.
Two years ago when Lebanon’s farmers’ market ceased, Bethany Deaton said she kept hearing people use one thing as a reason — “Well, we’re not Zionsville.”
“No, we’re not, and that’s OK,” said Bethany, who owns The Fig Tree Cafe with her husband, Levi. “We can still do our own thing, and it can be good.”
A strategic plan bolstering security at the Boone County Courthouse has been endorsed by the county commissioners and now needs fiscal backing from the county council.
Proposed vote center locations announced
Boone County voters would go to only eight different locations in the 2014 elections if a vote center plan is adopted by the Boone County Election Board.
