Church sets record with 850 Thanksgiving meals served

Lebanon — A record 850 meals were served during the 28th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 22 at the Lebanon Rock Church, 504 E. Elm St., Lebanon.

“It was a tremendous success,” Pastor Matt Skiles said.

Last year more than 700 meals were served; in 2010, 660 meals were distributed.

About 70 volunteers, from 15 churches and ministry groups, helped cook, serve and deliver the meals, Skiles said. More than 70 turkeys were consumed, he said.

“This year’s Thanksgiving Dinner required more donations than ever, and we thank all those who generously donated and helped brighten the Thanksgiving of many needy people in our community,” Skiles said.

The dinner would not be possible without the volunteers and community-wide support, Skiles said.

“Each year this dinner has grown in the number of meals served and volunteers who are enlisted to help,” he said.

The church looks forward to continuing the tradition, Skiles said.
